Each year there are special days set aside for Environmental Education. We all know Earth Day is in April, but when is America Recycles Day, Arbor Day, National Wildlife Week, and American Wetlands Month?

Electronic Field Trips (EFT) give students the opportunity to learn about a particular topic through national parks they may never get a chance to visit. On October 13, 2010 the next installment in the Electronic Field Trip series will teach students about climate change through a visit to North Cascades National Park.

Every November millions of monarch butterflies migrate to their overwintering sites in the mountains of Mexico. At the same time symbolic paper monarchs made by school children from the United States and Canada find their way to students living in the monarch sanctuary area. These symbolic butterflies build bridges of communication between students in Mexico, the United States, and Canada. Butterflies are submitted in October each year.

Started in 2008, the Tour de Turtles is a fun, educational journey through the science, research and geography of sea turtle migration using satellite telemetry. This event follows the marathon migration of sea turtles, representing different species, from their nesting beaches to their foraging grounds.

This toolkit contains 11 tools and calculators that can help people better understand the energy and carbon emissions embedded in their water.

As the nation’s leading scientific resource for oil spills, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has been on the scene of the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico from the start, providing coordinated scientific weather and biological response services to federal, state and local organizations. As part of its initiative to help educate students about the spill, NOAA has compiled a collection of teaching resources for elementary through high school.
