Environmental Education in Georgia

Georgia Project WET (Water Education for Teachers)

Georgia Project WET coordinates workshops for formal and nonformal educators of K-12th grade students. Educators receive the Project WET Curriculum and Activity Guide, over 90 activities "by and for educators" as part of the 6-10 hour workshop.

Georgia Project WET sponsors the River of Words poetry and art contest in Georgia. After a watershed study, students describe their "sense of place" through poetry or art. Work is entered in a national competition. All students who enter receive a certificate. State winners are recognized at a state Awards Ceremony; on the Georgia River of Words traveling exhibit; and in the Georgia ROW Poetry and Art Journal. National Grand Prize Winners (8 students annually) receive a trip to Washington, D.C. where they are recognized at a Library of Congress ceremony. Georgia Project WET also recognizes a Workshop Facilitator, School and Teacher of the Year at the Environmental Education Alliance of Georgia's annual conference. The School of the Year receives a FREE Educator Workshop for 20 participants or help to hold a school water festival (a $400 value!).
