Oatland Island Wildlife Center


Located on a marsh island, the Center maintains a large collection of animals native to Georgia, nature trails, an 1800 "Heritage Homesite," gardens, 525 foot marsh boardwalk, two pontoon boats and dock, and a portable planetarium (StarLab), all used for instructional programs. Oatland has been serving southeast regional students and teachers, as well as the general public, for over 25 years.

Mission
To equip students, teachers, and the general public with the knowledge and increased awareness necessary to develop attitudes that enable them to make lifestyle changes which enhance and preserve the natural environment.

Cost of Programs/Admission
General Admission: Adults $5, Children/Seniors $3 School Programs: $3/student (Chatham County) School Programs: $6/student (non-Chatham Co.)

Features
Large natural exhibits featuring live indiginous wildlife (wolves, bison, Florida panthers, eagles, bobcats, fox, etc.).

Accessibility
Handcap trail allows accessibilty to bison, alligator, fox, bird of prey, and deer exhibits. The entire property is somewhat accessible but trails have tree roots and are uneven.

Additional
Programs must be scheduled in advance but the general public may take the self-guided tour of the trails without a reservation. Oatland is closed on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day & New Years Day.
