Teaching Museum South
Hapeville
(7 Miles)
The Teaching Museum South opened in 1992. Picture a 1929 brick school, designed by the famous Atlanta architect, Philip Trammell Shutze. The museum is tucked along a tree-lined street in Hapeville, Georgia, a suburb of Atlanta, Georgia.
Open the door and smell the wooden floors, admire the original globes still hanging from the chandeliers in the auditorium, and listen to the historical American voices of the past as they tell their stories.
Now open the doors to the exhibit rooms and experience a One-Room School House, a Native American habitat or the "secret annex" where Anne Frank and the other seven inhabitants lived for nearly two years. There are a total of fourteen exhibit rooms in the museum. The museum's educational, cultural, naturalistic and artistic programs are a wonderful hands-on experience for students in grades K-12.

An arboretum is simply a living tree museum. The typical arboretum is located in a park or garden, where trees can be arranged in themes or by closely related species. But this isn’t a typical arboretum. For one thing, the trees in this arboretum are the trees of Inman Park — shade and ornamental, old and young, exotic and native. For another, people live here. This is their arboretum, which these neighbors helped design and continue to maintain.
