A Naturalist's Guide to St. Simons Island

A Naturalist's Guide to St. Simons Island by Taylor Schoettle covers much the same information as the book, A Guide to a Georgia Barrier Island, but directs its examples to St. Simons Island. The history section traces events from the Spanish Mission and Colonial periods to the present, resulting in St. Simons becoming one of the few public residential islands of the Georgia coast. An extensive Field Guide section locates historic landmarks and identifies the Island's natural history.

This guide is intended for anyone interested in learning more about the natural history of St. Simons Island. Although the book contains the detail to interest naturalists and educators, it is written for non-technical readers. Another purpose of the guide is to prepare educators to take classes to this fascinating area.
