EE Alliance of Georgia Awards - Call for Nominations


The Environmental Education Alliance (EEA) of Georgia will recognize exceptional contributions to environmental education during its annual conference, March 11, 2011. Awards will be presented in the following categories:

Dr. Eugene Odum Lifetime Achievement Award - Recognizing significant contributions to EE. Nominees must have:

  • been active EEA members for at least five years, or
  • made leadership contributions to the field of EE, in addition to contributions from either their salaried duties or as volunteers, or
  • received clear recognition of their overall contributions from EE colleagues and within EEA, or
  • served at least 15 years in the EE field

Outstanding Service to Environmental Education by an Individual - Recognizing significant contributions to EE. Nominees do not have to be active EEA members, but must have:

  • made visible contributions in EE (e.g., research, innovations, curricula, legislation, publications, teaching), or
  • shown dedicated service in the field of EE in Georgia, or
  • made an outstanding environmental contribution, action, or stance by a person whose primary function is not environmental (e.g., a politician supportive of EE programs or legislation, etc.), or
  • shown excellence in reporting environmental issues for the purpose of educating the public, in print or electronic media (e.g., a writer; newspaper, radio, or television program that regularly gives space or time to present environmental information in such a way as to educate over a period of time; or any network, foundation, or entity that makes such reporting possible)

Outstanding Service to Environmental Education by an Organization
- Recognizing significant contributions to EE. The organization does not have to be an active EEA member, but must have:
  • made visible contributions in EE (e.g., research, innovations, curricula, legislation, publications, teaching), or
  • shown dedicated service in the field of EE in Georgia, or
  • made an outstanding environmental contribution, action, or stance by an organization whose primary function is not environmental (e.g., a political group that is supportive of EE programs or legislation), or
  • shown excellence in reporting environmental issues for the purpose of educating the public, in print or electronic media (e.g., a writer; newspaper, radio, or television program that regularly gives space or time to present environmental information in such a way as to educate over a period of time; or any network, foundation, or entity that makes such reporting possible)

Pre K-16 Formal Educator of the Year Award - Recognizing significant contributions to EE. Nominees do not have to be active EEA members, but must have:

  • received clear recognition from their EE colleagues in Georgia of their overall contributions, or
  • made visible contributions to the field of EE (e.g., research, legislation, publications, teaching), or
  • demonstrated innovation in incorporating EE into lesson plans, or
  • demonstrated leadership in using the environment as a context for learning (among students and colleagues)

Individuals, non-governmental and governmental organizations, institutions and agencies, profit and not-for-profit entities are eligible to apply.

Nominations must be submitted in a MS-Word, RTF, or PDF format by January 19, 2011 to awards@eealliance.org.
